Amazfit Helio Strap: review, accuracy and real cost

Amazfit Helio Strap: review, accuracy and real cost
Gadgets & TechImage de l’article

Our take on the Amazfit Helio Strap: an interesting option for keeping a traditional watch and tracking your habits without a mandatory subscription, with reservations about sleep and recovery. Published tests offer encouraging observations on heart-rate tracking and battery life. They do not demonstrate that its sleep stages or BioCharge score accurately measure your recovery.

This is a source-based review, with no personal hands-on testing. Prices and French sales pages were checked on 19 October 2026. The field observations cited relate to the testers’ devices and software, sometimes predating the features currently advertised.

Helio Strap: verdict by use case

The right purchase depends mainly on what you want to check every day:

Your needSource-based assessmentDecisive limitation
Keep a traditional watch and record trendsA sensible optionYou must be willing to check Zepp on your phone
Track heart rate during exerciseEncouraging in the tests reviewedCheck your sports, rapid changes and placement
Observe sleep timingReasonable use alongside a sleep diaryLying still while awake can be mistaken for sleep
Know your exact minutes of deep sleepPurchase not justified by the evidence gatheredNo specific validation against polysomnography identified in our search
Get reliable guidance for every sessionCautionA proprietary score replaces neither how you feel nor a training plan
Run without a phone with visible pace and routeChoose another categoryNo screen or built-in GPS

The practical benefit can be very simple: wear something discreet and look at a trend. There is no need to turn every morning into an algorithmic pass-or-fail test.

To compare categories, also see our screenless fitness band comparison · FR. Here, we examine only the standard Strap, not the Strap Pro.

Advertised, observed, not validated: three columns to keep separate

The French Helio Strap product page describes the features of the product being sold. A media review describes one particular use experience. Measurement validation requires an appropriate reference and an explicit protocol. These three levels answer different questions.

Here is the information useful for making a decision:

FeatureAdvertised by Amazfit as of 19 October 2026Observed in the tests reviewedWhat remains uncertain
Heart rateOptical tracking and broadcasting to compatible devicesFrandroid compares three runs against a Polar H10, with broadly similar results but differences in the curvesReliability across all sports, skin types and movements
SleepDuration, stages, naps, overnight HRV and scoresFrandroid reports underestimated awakenings and falsely detected napsStage accuracy against a reference examination
RecoveryBioCharge scoreTesters describe the score’s presence and changesAbility to improve training decisions and outcomes
Battery lifeUp to 10 days under the manufacturer’s conditionsFrandroid: an average of 11 days and 18 hours over six cycles. Montre Cardio GPS: around 10 and a half daysYour own battery life as the battery ages
SportsThe current detailed list advertises 57 modes, including pool swimmingOlder reviews describe a smaller selectionFeatures actually rolled out to each device

The Frandroid review published on 12 October 2025 states that the device was supplied by Amazfit. Its comparisons are useful, but remain those of one tester over a few sessions. A similar average heart rate can hide missed transitions. This is not an accuracy estimate valid for the entire population.

The Montre Cardio GPS review describes, among other things, a comfortable band, slow-drying nylon and limitations in some automatic detections. These are field observations, not medical certification.

Software matters as much as the spec sheet

An older review may say “no swimming” while the current product page lists it. Both findings need dates, rather than arbitrarily choosing whichever suits the verdict.

We could not confirm a firmware version universally distributed in France at the time of writing. The official Balance 3 page mentions support for managing the Strap from firmware version 3.25.0.2 in its release notes. This establishes a minimum version for that feature, not the latest version available on your band.

Before making any comparison, record the app and band versions in Zepp, install the offered updates and note the date. Do not assume that issues with 2025 software are necessarily still present in 2026, or that they have automatically been resolved.

Heart rate, HRV and sleep: why accuracy does not carry over

The optical sensor observes changes in light related to blood flow beneath the skin. The signal must then be processed to estimate your pulse. Movement and skin contact can disrupt this chain. The official Strap manual explains, among other things, how to wear it and its tracking features.

Tracking an average heart rate well does not prove that the intervals between beats are measured with the same accuracy. Heart rate variability, or HRV, describes these variations in interval length. Your personal trend can provide context, but a single number does not identify a cause of fatigue. Also avoid directly comparing values from two brands that may not use the same calculation windows.

For sleep stages, the band makes an estimate using indirect signals. Polysomnography uses brain activity, among other measures, to distinguish stages. Two apps displaying similar figures therefore do not validate each other.

In the sources consulted for this article, we identified neither an independent study specific to the Helio Strap comparing its stages against polysomnography, nor validation of BioCharge as a tool for prescribing training. This literature search is not a systematic review and does not demonstrate that no such work exists.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine position statement notes that consumer technologies do not replace a medical assessment and must be rigorously validated for diagnostic use. This 2018 text provides a general framework, not an assessment of the Strap.

BioCharge: an indicator, not a measured fuel tank

The score turns data into an easy-to-read representation. It does not directly measure an amount of energy available in your body. The mistake would be to give the number more authority than symptoms, training history and how you feel.

The “Toll”, meaning the hidden cost in attention, can show up here: the subscription is optional, but compulsive score-checking can become a daily habit. If tracking increases your worry without changing a useful decision, give it less space.

Dated price and two-year cost

On 19 October 2026, the French store lists the black standard Strap at €99.90, marked sold out. This is therefore a scenario based on the listed price, not an offer you can order immediately. Basic features are advertised as requiring no mandatory subscription.

The following calculation assumes a purchase at this price, no paid services and no replacement over two years:

ItemAmount usedCondition
Standard Helio Strap€99.90Official listed price, out of stock when checked
Mandatory subscription for basic features€0 over 24 monthsOptional services excluded
Standard shipping to France€0 advertisedShipping policy to be reconfirmed at checkout
Charging headIncludedUSB-C cable not included
Cable, extra band, replacementAdd if neededNo invented future prices
Two-year baseline€99.90Under the assumptions above

This works out to around €4.16 per month spread over 24 months, not a monthly payment. The full cost becomes: actual price paid + any shipping + accessories purchased + optional services + necessary replacements.

The French shipping policy advertises free standard shipping to France. It also contains outdated information: confirm the order summary rather than inferring a current delivery time from this page. When buying from a retailer, recalculate using its price and terms.

Helio Strap, Ring or Strap Pro: do not buy the wrong product

The Helio name covers several devices:

ModelUseful difference when choosingCaution
Standard StrapScreenless band, BioChargeThe observations discussed here concern this model
Helio RingRing, worn on a fingerComfort, sizing and measurements must be assessed separately
Strap ProSeparate system focused on movement and hybrid training, HybridChargeThe standard model’s performance does not validate the Pro

The French Strap Pro product page lists €199.90 for the Sport Pack, with an add-to-cart option available when checked. The manufacturer advertises up to 11 days of battery life. This price and battery life are not those of the standard model. Check the pack contents and the wearing positions required for the features you want before comparing two offers.

Our source-based Helio Ring review · FR concerns the ring. The word “Helio” does not allow validation to be transferred from one device to another.

Choose a GPS watch instead if you want to view pace and navigation without a phone. To examine your session heart-rate data in detail, a reference chest strap may be more relevant than another recovery score. If your main goal is to explain sleepiness or frequent awakenings, start with a medical consultation.

A trial checklist, only if the seller allows the product to be worn

Do not confuse an advertised return window with a free exercise trial. The French Amazfit return policy advertises 30 days from purchase, but requires an unused item and excludes worn items. It also states that the customer pays return shipping costs.

Before wearing the band, ask the seller for written confirmation of the terms applicable to a real trial. If they do not allow one, opt for a demonstration or a seller that explicitly accepts this use. The following checklist applies only to an authorised trial, within the time actually available.

Set your criteria before looking at the scores:

CheckHow to proceedPersonal decision criterion
ComfortObserve everyday wear, sleep and drying after cleaningNo irritation, discomfort or repeated interruptions to wearing it
SleepEach morning, note bedtime, getting-up time and awakenings you rememberTiming consistent enough for your use, without claiming to validate stages
Heart rateIf you already own a chest strap, compare curves during your usual sessionsSpot dropouts and delays rather than looking only at the average
GPS and syncingCheck your phone, permissions and how recording is startedTracks and sessions available without off-putting extra steps
Battery lifeNote the initial charge, settings, activities and battery level each dayA charging interval that fits your habits, without promising a full cycle during the return window
BioCharge usefulnessWrite down how you feel first, then check the scoreAt least one useful decision, without ignoring pain or fatigue because the score is good

This check assesses how well it fits your life. It is not scientific validation. Keep the packaging and accessories, and contact the seller before the stated deadline if a return is necessary.

The Verdict

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without a subscription?

Yes, for the advertised basic features with Zepp. Check optional paid offers and any trial periods offered in the app separately.

How useful is the recovery score?

BioCharge can serve as a personal reference point. Its ability to choose the right session or prevent injury is not established by the tests reviewed. Start with how you feel, then see whether the score adds anything.

Can it replace a GPS watch?

Not for standalone GPS, pace display or wrist-based navigation. Recording a route depends on the phone and mode used. The Strap can complement a traditional watch without becoming a standalone sports watch.

How does it differ from the Helio Ring and Strap Pro?

The Ring is worn on a finger. The Pro offers a movement-focused system and HybridCharge. This review concerns the standard Strap: price, observed battery life and conclusions do not carry over to other models.

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    • Does the Amazfit Helio Strap work without a subscription?

Yes, for the advertised basic features, using the Zepp app. Optional paid services may be offered. This article’s two-year calculation excludes them, along with additional accessories.

    • How useful is the BioCharge recovery score?

It is a proprietary estimate to weigh against how you feel and your habits. The heart-rate tests reviewed do not validate its ability to determine the right training load or prevent injury.

    • Can the Helio Strap replace a GPS watch?

It can track certain activities and broadcast heart-rate data to a compatible device, but has neither a screen nor built-in GPS. For a GPS track, it depends on your phone and the recording mode used. It therefore cannot replace a standalone GPS watch for pace and wrist-based navigation.

    • What is the difference between the Helio Strap, Helio Ring and Strap Pro?

The standard Strap is a screenless band, the Ring is a ring, and the Pro is a separate system focused on movement and hybrid training, with HybridCharge. The standard Strap’s prices and test observations do not carry over to the other two.
